For the first issue, the devs elaborated on role symmetry. Before this update, the algorithm prioritized a balanced mmr over the individual rank that caused some players to face higher-mmr ones in the same role. Because of this, some Ancient players complained to have laned against high-divine or Immortal players. This mechanic has since been removed, making it so that only wins and losses matter when it comes to calibration. Each competitive season lasts for about six months, which medals and leagues resetting at the beginning of every new season.

Earlier today, Valve released a small patch which saw the addition of stats for Neutral items. A welcome quality of life chance, but then players started reporting a weird bug – they automatically gained or lost thousands of MMR points. From what we can tell, players who finished the match when Dota 2 coordinator was offline or right after the patch was released, are the ones who are primarily affected by this issue.
If their last game ended with a victory, they gained thousands of MMR. If they lost, they lost the same amount. Many have theorized that this is due to the server trying to process matchmaking data, over and over again but ultimately failing.
It appears that there were some issues with the Dota 2 matchmaking rating changes that were rolled out in September. Valve said in its latest.
As per usual, the update includes new cosmetics and balances. Instead of two separate ranks, there are now five role ranks and an overall MMR foundation system. Players will have a single rank system that uses handicaps for each of the five ranked positions. Essentially, every player automatically has five rank roles.
They can queue for a ranked match. And if they queue with their most successful rank role, they’ll encounter opposing player’s that are equivalent or much higher in skill level. But when a player queues with a weaker role rank, they’ll face opponents that are lower in rank. Every time a player starts their game, they’ll see their adjusted badge levels that were used to start the matchmaking and the badge levels of their teammates.
No matter what rank role you queue in, at the end of the game, your main rank will be updated regardless. Ultimately, your single matchmaking rank is the foundation for all the role ranks. However, the waiting time for different role rank queueing will differ significantly. The new update provides better flexibility and choices. Players can now guarantee which lane they want to play in, unlike the previous system wherein it was still uncertain which lane a player would play in whenever you queued as a support role.
